Best Places to Watch
From iconic waterfront precincts to peaceful foreshore parklands — there's a perfect spectator spot for everyone.
Start/Finish Line — Princes Wharf & Constitution Dock
The beating heart of race day. Watch the field charge off at the start, cheer runners through the mid-race lap transition, and be there for the emotional red carpet finish. The Runners Expo and the event village are right here.
Salamanca Place
Australia's most iconic heritage precinct is even more special on race day. Watch runners pass the Georgian sandstone warehouses as the morning light hits the cobblestones. Grab a coffee from one of the many nearby cafés while you cheer.
Battery Point Village — Hampden Road
The historic laneways and charming cottages of Battery Point create a wonderfully intimate atmosphere. The streets are narrow enough to bring spectators close to the action — great energy for runners heading south.
Sandy Bay Road
The long out-and-back stretch running south toward Wrest Point. Position yourself here and you'll see runners heading south and returning north — essentially doubling your viewing time. Find a spot and enjoy the parade of the whole field.
Short Beach & Wrest Point Foreshore
The southern turnaround point — one of the most dramatic spots on the whole course. The iconic Wrest Point Casino tower rises above the Derwent River as runners reach the turn and dig in for the journey home. Outstanding photo opportunities.
Sandy Bay Foreshore / Long Beach
A relaxed gem away from the main crowds. Spread out along the sandy foreshore of the Derwent River and enjoy a quieter, scenic spectator experience. Bring a picnic rug — this is a beautiful stretch where runners are in their stride.
Lower Domain Road & Davies Avenue
The Domain section offers sweeping open parkland views with Mount Wellington as a backdrop. Elevated sightlines let you watch the field approaching from a distance — a peaceful and scenic alternative to the busier waterfront spots.
Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens
The most beautiful setting on the course. Lush gardens, colourful blooms, and sweeping Derwent River views make this a must-visit for spectators wanting a unique experience. Arrive early, explore the gardens, and cheer runners through.
Evans Street & Hunter Street Waterfront
As runners head back into the CBD along the city waterfront, the buzz builds toward the finish. Watch athletes power toward Constitution Dock with the waterfront skyline around them — the anticipation here is electric.
The Finish Line — Castray Esplanade, Princes Wharf
Save your biggest cheer for last. The red carpet hero finish at Princes Wharf is where the magic happens — tears, PBs, first-timers, and unforgettable moments. Get there early and secure your place along the finishing chute.
Make the Most of Your Day
Plan Your Route Early
Road closures are in place for the morning of the event. Allow extra travel time and check the changed traffic conditions before you head out.

The marathon is a multi-loop course. Most spectator spots will see runners twice — so pick your favourite location and enjoy the show.
Bring a Sign!
A big, bold cheer sign goes a long way at kilometer 35. Silly, emotional, or motivational — your runner will remember it.
Pack for the Weather
April in Hobart can be crisp in the early morning. Dress in layers, wear sunscreen for the warmer parts of the day, and bring a water bottle.
Be at the Finish
Even if you only pick one spot, make it the finish line at Princes Wharf. The atmosphere as runners cross the line is truly unforgettable.
